Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1\, with its iconic opening\, evocative melodies and lush romanticism\, was an instant success and perennial audience favorite. Yet\, it was revolutionary at the time\, called "unplayable" and "extremely difficult\, strange\, wild\, [and] ultra-modern." Ottorino Respighi's lavishly orchestrated Fountains of Rome beautifully evokes four of Rome's fountains.
