SUMMARY: 'Sounds of Christmas' concert
DESCRIPTION:North Idaho College will present its "Sounds of Christmas" concert in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday\, Dec. 14 and at 2 p.m. Sunday\, Dec. 15.The concert will feature performances by the NIC Wind Symphony\, NIC Cardinal Chorale\, NIC Chamber Singers and Cardinal Vocal Jazz. This concert features the audience-favorite Christmas carol sing-along.The Cardinal Chorale will perform favorites such as "Alleluia Rejoice\," "The Bells\," and "Some Children See Him." The Chamber Singers will perform "Ave Maria\," "The Huron Carol\," and "Mary Had a Baby\," among others. Cardinal Vocal Jazz will perform "Blue Christmas\," "A Child is Born\," and the traditional French carol "Bring a Torch\, Jeanette Isabella."The NIC Wind Symphony pieces will include:"Holiday Bell Carol" arranged by Tom Tucker: A popular theme of the Christmas season based on a Ukrainian folk tune "Shchedryk." Also arranged by Tucker\, "A Christmas Hymm\," based on "Away in the Manger\," will be performed. Tucker is a retired music educator living in Hayden.  He studied at Michigan State University and pursued his music career in Germany. His compositions for band have been performed throughout the world."Overture to a Winter Celebration" arranged by James M. Stephenson: A flashy overture that captures the holiday spirit and unleashes it all over again with fresh harmonies and punctuating rhythms."We Wish You a Mambo Christmas" arranged by Eric Morales: The post-war decade from the late 1940s through the 1950s was a unique era in music history\, producing a mambo craze which reached a fevered pitch throughout the Americas.
