This Week's Events in Coeur d'Alene and Surrounds

Dolce Canto & Monroe Crossing Choral/Buegrass Concert

Dolce Canto, Missoula, Montana's premiere vocal ensemble, in collaboration with award winning bluegrass artists, Monroe Crossing, present an evening of choral and energetic bluegrass music, performed with soul and inspiration.  Both groups will perform individual sets, followed by a joint presentation of Minnesota composer Carol Barnett's The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. This stunning and unique work blends the traditions of liturgy and classical choral singing with contemporary poetry and bluegrass instrumentation.  No strangers to the work, or to each other, Dolce Canto and Monroe Crossing shared the stage to present the piece in New York City's Carnegie Hall in 2013 and again in Missoula, MT in 2014. This is a must see performance for anyone who enjoys choral or bluegrass music.

Tickets are not being sold for this event but suggested donations of $15 for adults and $10 for students will gratefully be accepted at the door.

Dolce Canto enriches the lives of its members and audiences by performing exceptional and diverse choral music with compelling artistry and sensitivity. The choir is an auditioned ensemble comprised of professional musicians, music teachers, community members, and students who share an enthusiasm for the choral art. Dolce Canto was showcased during the 2010 Northwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, is the 2014 recipient of the prestigious Dale Warland Singers Commission Award, and recently released its second CD, "A Joyful Season." Peter Park is the founding conductor and artistic director of the group.
Named in honor of Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass Music," Monroe Crossing dazzles audiences with an electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and heartfelt originals. Their airtight harmonies, razor sharp arrangements, and on-stage rapport make them audience favorites across the United States and Canada. Since the year 2000, the band has released 13 CDs and a live concert DVD and has made over 1500 concert appearances throughout the USA, Canada, and Europe. In 2007, they were selected as an Official Showcase Band at the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass Convention in Nashville, and later that year, they were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.
