'Body of a Dancer' Book Reading
North Idaho College English Instructor Renee D'Aoust, author of "Body of a Dancer," will read excerpts from her book in the Writing Center in Lee-Kildow Hall Annex on NIC's main campus. "Body of a Dancer" is a memoir of interlacing essays that explores the brutal and passionate world of modern dance in New York City. As a student of Martha Graham Dance, D'Aoust tells of muscle and desire, day jobs and defeat. Dance history is interwoven with the stories of contemporary dancers as she explores the ties that bind her. D'Aoust has had essays featured in the "Best American Essays" anthology in 2006, 2007 and 2009. She is the recipient of grants from the Puffin Foundation and the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Her nonfiction work has been included in the anthology "Reading Dance," edited by Robert Gottlieb and nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and she is the recipient of NEA Dance Criticism fellowship. The reading is free and open to the public.
