Spokane Symphony Classics 5: Debussy & Mahler
Claude Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun was a turning point in the history of music. One of the most famous openings in the orchestral repertoire is the piece's magical flute solo, played by our own Principal Flute Bruce Bodden. Mahler's Symphony No. 5 was a turning point for him. It has become one of the quintessential showcases for orchestra, where each player is a virtuoso. Alongside Debussy and Mahler is an exciting contemporary work by composer and nightclub DJ, Mason Bates, who blurs the lines between classical and electronica in Mothership.
