Spokane Symphony Classics 8: Eastern Journeys
Explore the sounds of the Middle East. The journey begins in the mythical past of the Persian Empire with Iranian-born composer Behzad Ranjbaran's interpretation for the epic poem Shahnameh, the Persian Odyssey. Fast forward to today's harsh reality as young composer Mohammed Fairouz takes us to Tahrir Square with his striking new work for Clarinet and Orchestra, featuring our own Daniel Cotter as soloist. The Chichester Psalms is Bernstein's choral masterpiece. Sung in Hebrew, it evokes the world of King David. Whether overtly stated or subtly implied, the music of this concert salutes a proud and unique culture. Also on the playbill is Ana Lara's Angels of Darkness and Dawn, a stunning orchestral tone poem of pulsing colors and emotional depth.
